Autres exemples d'apocopes : auto(mobile), kilo(gramme), prof(esseur), moto(cyclette), sympa(thique), math(ématiques), pneu(matique), cinéma(tographe), photo(graphie). L'apocope est une forme de «troncation»; troncation par apocope. On écrit aussi par apocope, «grand'messe» au lieu de «grande messe», «grand-mère» au lieu de «grande-mère».
