A disease characterized by deposits of calcium pyrophosphate crystals in the articular cartilage and synovial fluid.

The highest KS content (595 ng/ml) was measured in the patients with articular chondrocalcinosis (calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition disease/pseudogout). (In Orv Hetil (HUNGARY) Feb 28 1993, 134 (9) p461-7, cited in data base.)

OBS

Les Européens conservent en général l'appellation «chondrocalcinose articulaire», alors que les auteurs américains se réfèrent plus volontiers à la «maladie par dépôts de cristaux de pyrophosphate de calcium dihydraté» ou encore au «syndrome de pseudogoutte», désignant plutôt l'accès aigu microcristallin. On en exclut les troubles causés par d'autres cristaux calciques, par exemple l'hydroxyapatite responsable de la maladie des calcifications tendineuses multiples, mais qui semble aussi jouer un rôle pathogène intra-articulaire.

OBS

When accompanied by attacks of goutlike symptoms, it is known as pseudogout.
