Le terme anglais hauling a un sens plus large que le terme français débardage et désigne le transport des charges d'un point à un autre, même hors de la forêt, soit de la souche à la jetée ou de la jetée à l'usine. On pourra donc rencontrer en anglais le terme hauling dans des contextes où il ne correspondra pas à débardage.
