A time scale is defined either by its initial event and a scale measure (e.g. the second) or a sequence of events. Some time scales are based upon clocks and some also upon astronomical phenomena. Certaines échelles de temps reposent sur des horloges, d'autres sur des phénomènes astronomiques.
