Periodic blood counts should be done during therapy to detect hemolytic anemia. It may be useful to do a direct Coombs test before therapy and at 6 and 12 months after the start of therapy.

Il est souhaitable au début d'un traitement au méthyldopa de procéder à une numération globulaire (...) à des fins de référence ou pour déterminer s'il y a anémie. Il faut procéder à ces examens à intervalles réguliers pendant la durée du traitement afin de dépister la présence d'anémie hémolytique. Il peut même être avantageux d'effectuer une épreuve directe de Coombs avant le traitement, puis de 6 à 12 mois plus tard.
