In some cases, ecological corridors can be disjunct patches of habitat, often called "stepping stones", particularly when supporting long-distance migration of wildlife such as marine mammals, sea turtles and birds.

Un corridor écologique peut être constitué aussi d'une série d'espaces terrestres discontinus qui servent de sites de halte pour les espèces qui effectuent des migrations aériennes, comme les papillons monarques ou les bécasseaux maubèches (Calidris canutus), ces derniers migrant entre les hémisphères nord et sud. Toutefois, ces corridors discontinus ne sont efficaces que s'ils sont harmonisés avec les voies migratoires afin d'en assurer la connectivité.
