The first organization of curling clubs into an association took place in Scotland on July 25, 1838, under the name "Grand Caledonian Curling Club". When, five years later, Queen Victoria gave permission to use the word "Royal", the association dropped the word "Grand" considered superfluous. Since 1843, the association is known as the "Royal Caledonian Curling Club", the "mother club" to which are linked, each as "a Branch", curling clubs in Canada and elsewhere in the world. 1, record 1, English, - Royal%20Caledonian%20Curling%20Club

1, record 1, French, - Royal%20Caledonian%20Curling%20Club
