Le rivet aveugle, que l'on appelle souvent du nom de la marque la plus connue «rivet Pop», peut être utilisé comme le rivet traditionnel. Il a surtout été conçu pour riveter «à l'aveugle», c'est-à-dire sans avoir accès au dos de la pièce sur laquelle on veut riveter un élément. Un exemple très courant d'utilisation est la pose des plaques d'immatriculation sur les véhicules.
