Plusieurs espèces de félins, maintenant disparues, ont proliféré en Amérique du Nord durant la dernière ère glaciaire. On distingue parmi ceux-ci le chat des cavernes (Homotherium serum), le tigre à dents de sabre (Smilodon fatalis) et le lion d'Amérique (Panthera leo atrox).
