The Red River style of log building construction was one of the original methods used in Canada. The logs were left rounded with notched ends. This type of construction consisted of a basic frame of grooved, vertical, squared posts, mortised and tenoned into sills at their bases or set directly into the ground(in rare, early cases), and at their tips, mortised and tenoned into squared plates. Horizontal, squared timbers were fixed between these posts, with the tenons of the horizontal timbers fitting into the vertical groove of the posts. Roof structures of varying types were built on the wall plates. Red River Frame construction allowed both flexibility and portability. Large buildings could be erected using short logs, and buildings could be easily dismantled, moved and put up elsewhere. For these reasons, Red River Frame was the predominant type of construction used in the Canadian West during the fur trade era. The Red River style of log construction has spread across North America and is currently enjoying new popularity. Red River log construction is yet another Metis contribution to the development of Canada.

Sanitary and storm sewer systems are an integral part of an urban area. Waste treatment facilities are carefully designed for industrial, institutional, commercial, and population wastes. To ensure proper flow of waste and storm systems, pre-benched manhole bases allow smooth transition and flows at junctions, change of pipe sizes and lateral connections. The pre-benched manhole base consists of a section of monolithically poured manhole barrel with channeled concrete between the inverts of inlet/outlet pipes with a minimum slope of 25mm or 1". The channeled concrete is smooth finished and in most cases a gasketed opening is provided for the insertion of inlet/outlet pipes. The manhole base has a joint on the top to allow for riser sections to be placed to reach the installation invert. The pre-cast, pre-benched manhole base allows for a high quality and quick alternative to cast in place benching. Using pre-cast, pre-benched manhole bases minimize construction time in the field and ensures a quality, long term solution in building storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure. Most pre-benched manhole bases are custom built for the contractor where the angles between the inlet/outlet mains require specific layout. In some cases straight through, 45 or 90 degree configurations are available for standard pipe sizes of 100-200 mm.

De plus, sa charge émotive est très riche. Il rend très bien l'aspect prestigieux que revêt une construction de ce type, il a beaucoup plus de mordant. Peut-être conviendrait-il tout au plus de le mettre entre guillemets. Il est en effet toujours indiqué dans les sources comme un anglicisme (dans le Grand Robert notamment).

Nous pensons que les termes «appartement-terrasse» et «appartement de terrasse» sont peut-être acceptables, si on considère qu'ils constituent l'ellipse pour «appartement construit sur un toit-terrasse». Par contre, nous pensons que «appartement à terrasse» (suggéré par la source REYAN), n'est pas recommandable. Parce que ce terme ne sous-entend pas que l'appartement est situé sur une toiture-terrasse, mais qu'il comporte une terrasse (autre sens de «terrasse»). Or, il se trouve que ce n'est pas toujours le cas. Les «penthouses» ne sont pas toujours entourés d'une terrasse. Quant à «duplex», que suggère encore la source REYAN, il s'agit d'autre chose. In the context of building contracts, plant includes all the items which are to be used for the purpose of the construction of the works but which will not form part of the permanent structure on completion. Plant may be unfixed(for example, tools and light machinery)-in which case the contractor remains, vis-a-vis the employer, the owner throughout. Alternatively plant may be temporarily affixed to the land or the building(for example, scaffolding, formwork, site huts)-in which case, and in the absence of express provisions in the contract, it is uncertain, having regard to the law of ownership, to whom the property belongs during the period of affixation.

On y trouve, par exemple : les voies d'accès et les chemins; les clôtures et les signalisations; les baraques et ateliers; les installations et parcs de stockage; les installations nécessaires à la fabrication du béton; les installations utiles au transport et au levage sur le chantier; les installations pour la production d'air comprimé, la ventilation, le pompage; les raccordements aux services publics, eau, électricité, eaux usées, téléphone; les échafaudages; les éléments de coffrage métallique, etc. D'autre part, on peut également considérer comme entrant dans les installations de chantier, le parc des engins mobiles utilisés pour la construction, soit : les camions, les dumpers, les rouleaux compresseurs, les pelles mécaniques, etc.
