The designer [of a show jumping course] can choose from a wide range of jumps that fall into three main categories : uprights, spreads, and triples. Uprights are jumps with the elements placed one above the other. An example is the post and rail, which has poles placed one above the other between two posts. This jump can generally be made higher or lower by adjusting the rests or cups on to the posts. A spread in an obstacle set up so that the horse has to jump both height and width. Spreads include the well-known water jump, the double oxer(two sets of uprights with a hedge sandwiched between), and the hog's back(three parallel rails, with the middle rail higher than the other two). The most common triple is the triple bars, which has three poles on separate supports. The poles are set [at] different heights, with the lowest one at the front. The jumps looks a bit like a staircase. Combinations are two or more jumps placed so close together that the horse can take only one or two strides between each one. Three jumps is the maximum in a combination.

Joseph Shepard Building: Information taken from the sign in front of the building. There is confusion surrounding the fact that the street where this building is located on is spelled as follows "Sheppard Avenue". According to the former North York archives department, the correct spelling of the family name of Joseph Shepard is "Shepard". Joseph Shepard did live on Sheppard Avenue. Somewhere along the line, the city started to spell Shepard with two p’s, hence the current spelling for the name of the street (Sheppard Avenue).

The Joseph Shepard Building is located in the central business district of North York, two blocks north of Sheppard Avenue, on the corner of Yonge Street and Elmhurst Avenue. The building was constructed between 1975 and 1977 by Public Works Canada. The principal designer was Macy DuBois, an important Canadian architect. The Joseph Shepard Building has a brick clad exterior and a multi-level terraced design. It has several distinctive features such as a complex massing, horizontally expressed by continuous bands of windows, an open public courtyard and a high level of detail.

Many screw designs have been utilized over the years for the various extrusion processes and materials.... The best-known screws can be loosely separated into two categories-conventional screws and barrier screws. Conventional screws usually are single flighted designs with the flight lead(or flight pitch) equal to the screw's nominal diameter. This type is termed a square-pitched screw, and when no mixing devices are present, it usually is referred to as a metering screw. Barrier screws are seen in many design configurations used in the extrusion industry, depending upon the designer. These screws have a second flight, which acts as a melt/solid separator designed to enhance output stability and allow higher usable output performance levels.

The anchorages of a cantilever bridge present the designer with little difficulty.... There are two basic ways of providing such anchorages....
