Face shields are the easiest type of personal protective equipment(PPE) to make. They typically consist of just two parts : a visor that covers the face and which is usually made of plastics such as polycarbonate, propionate, acetate, polyvinyl chloride(PVC), and polyethylene terephthalate glycol(PETG) ;and a method of holding the visor in place, such as a headband or strap.

The bioreactor "plug" is made of slotted PVC pipe which is screw cap sealed at each end. Each plug is loaded with an inert porous material which serves as a structural support matrix for the microorganisms. The seed cultures in the bioplugs are a mixture of microorganisms selected for their abilities to biodegrade the contaminants of concern... The bioplugs are strategically inserted into the contaminated zone(s). Liquids then flow through the plugs by a pressure gradient created using compressed air. This flow acts to accelerate the movement of ground or irrigation water through the immobilized bed; thereby, facilitating the mineralization of organics within the aqueous phase and the bulk generation of biomass which bleeds off the bed.

Brush strip sealing is recognised as solving draught problems where heavy-duty use is required in areas such as public transport applications. Dense black nylon bristles are locked into a galvanised steel strip, which is then generally fitted into an aluminium holder. The aluminium holder will take all bristle lengths, and the adhesive PVC foam tape is standard on most aluminium holders.

Protective clothing worn by radiographers contains lead and often other metals(e. g., tin, tungsten, antimony, barium) to shield the wearer from radiation. These metals are homogeneously mixed with synthetic rubber or polyvinyl chloride(PVC). Between two and five thin sheets of metal-impregnated rubber/PVC are placed between sheets of nylon fabric coated with urethane on the side against the lead-impregnated rubber/vinyl. The materials are cut into a pattern and sewn together to form the protective garment. The manufacturers of these garments vary the number of sheets, the percentage of metal, the grade of rubber or PVC, and the mixture of metals to affect flexibility, durability, radiation absorption efficiency, and weight.

Rockshield Testing. Description. Tuff-N-Nuff is a non-woven mat consisting of small diameter(approximately 0. 050") strands of PVC. The strands are bonded to each other in a controlled random pattern. The rock shield protects pipe coatings from direct impact during backfilling operations. It also provides long term protection by keeping hard objects in the backfill away from the pipe coating during operation of the line. Pipe may move laterally as well as longitudinally, and the rock shield is the first line of defense against damage to the coating and the pipe.

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head. In the simplest form of the spider or axial flow head, a central torpedo is positioned in the melt flow path supported generally by two spider legs. The smooth and direct path with little or no place for material to hang up and degrade makes this head ideal for PVC resin. Cross-sectional areas of the melt flow path from the extruder, over the torpedo, and over the spider legs are carefully balanced to ensure an even and consistent pressure and flow.

Extrusion stretch blow moulding(ESBM). A parison is extruded and as the preblow mould closes, a mandrel descends to form the bottle neck. The parison is subsequently pinched and inflated, then conditioned at the optimum temperature for orientation in the next stage. Transfer of the blown and conditioned preform to the stretch-blow mould takes place; fabrication of the finished part is achieved by stretching in the circumferential direction(pneumatic inflation) and in the longitudinal direction(mechanical push-rod), followed by rapid cooling to prevent relaxation of the(biaxial) molecular orientation. This process is centred on oriented PVC(OPVC) bottle manufacture, for transparent containers with enhanced clarity and greater resistance to gas permeation, higher impact strength and burst pressure.

Unplasticized PVC presents some processing difficulties due to its high melt viscosity; in addition, the finished product is too brittle for some applications. To overcome these problems and to produce toughening, certain polymeric additives are usually added to the PVC. These materials, known as impact modifiers, are generally semicompatible and often somewhat rubbery in nature. Among the most important impact modifiers in use today are butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers(nitrile rubber), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) graft terpolymers, methacrylate-butadiene-styrene(MBS) terpolymers, chlorinated polyethylene, and some polyacrylates.

A sticky oozing liquid that is actually the plasticizer that has bled out from a PVC plastic coin holder and lies on the surface of a coin. It is often coloured green(from the reaction of the plasticizer with the copper in the coin) but not often visible to the naked eye since it forms a thin coating on the coin which can dull the lustre and aid or cause corrosion of the metal.
